Lake Griffin on the Harris Chain of Lakes
The Northernmost Lake on the Chain
Lake Griffin covers approximately 9,428 acres, making it the eighth largest lake in Florida and one of the seven lakes that make up the Harris Chain of Lakes. The lake borders Fruitland Park, Leesburg, and Lady Lake. Unlike some of the other Harris Chain lakes, Lake Griffin’s water levels are controlled by locks on Haines Creek, giving it a somewhat different, less developed character.
Fishing and Outdoor Recreation
Lake Griffin is popular for fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing. Nearby Lake Griffin State Park adds hiking, camping, and one of Florida’s largest live oak trees to the mix.
